Rivets are the primary permanent fastener of aircraft sheet-metal structure. Solid shank rivets set with a bucking bar or squeeze tool form the strongest, lightest joints in primary structure; blind rivets close out assemblies where only one side is accessible.

Solid rivet families include MS20426 (100° flush head) and MS20427, plus MS20470 universal head — the largest rivet line in the catalog, spanning hundreds of size, head and material combinations. Blind rivets include NAS1097 and the bulbed NAS1398/NAS1399 families. Material codes are part of the part number: 1100 (A), 2117-T4 (AD), 2017-T4 (D), 2024-T4 (DD), 5056 (B), 7050 (E), Monel (M), copper (C) and Ti-45Nb (T).
